Group technology is a means to achieve higher productivity, greater manufacturing flexibility, and just-in-time inventory. the first step towards implementing group technology in manufacturing is the decomposition of the manufacturing system into cells consisting of various machines and part-families assigned to these cells. This problem has received considerable attention from researchers. This paper provides a review of the various algorithms available in the literature to solve this problem.
