While selected large manufacturing companies reap financial gains through computer-assisted inventory control, smaller firms struggle with informal systems that incur crippling, overhead costs without apparent relief in sight. A study which utilized questionnaire results to assess the current status of inventory control in small and mid-sized companies was used as a preamble to recommending development steps to extend control through the use of computerized information systems.
